What if I’ve never done yoga before? No matter what experience you have you will find the class challenging and rewarding and we will take you through each posture step by step. Do I have to be flexible or strong? You do not have to be flexible or strong to benefit from yoga. Your flexibility and strength will develop with a consistent practice. Is yoga targeted towards women? Yoga has been practised the world over for several decades by men and women of all ages and conditions. What do I wear and bring to my class? What you would normally wear to the gym is appropriate as long as its not too restrictive or too baggy. You should also bring water and a towel as the room could get warm. Can I eat before a yoga class? When it comes to food and digestion each individual is different and needs to find out what works for them. In general we do not recommend a eating a large meal within 2 hours of a class – if you must eat within 2 hours of a class then a light meal or snack that it easily digested is best. Can I eat after a class? Each individual is unique – find out what works for you. Generally it is recommended that you don’t eat anything heavy for at least 30 minutes after a class. What if I have health / medical issues (e.g. back pain, blood pressure, asthma)? A regular and consistent yoga practise can help heal old injuries and prevent new ones. Tessa will ask you at the beginning of each class whether you have any new injuries which can then be worked around to minimise aggravation. It is recommended that you consult your GP before you commence this or any other form of physical activity.
